Bugzilla – Bug 322
configure does not respect CFLAGS variable
Last modified: 2010-08-18 12:46:54 CEST
In configure.ac is defined:
# for Sun studio 11.
ACX_CHECK_COMPILER_FLAG(xO4, [CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -xO4"])
ACX_CHECK_COMPILER_FLAG(xtarget=generic, [CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -xtarget=generic"])
This genereates a SPARC32PLUS binary and any CFLAGS are ignored. Instead, the configure script should respect the CFLAGS variables and settings like this should be only available with the --enable-optimisations option.
Hi Ihsan, What is it that you want, these checks removed? Only the xtarget=generic one or also xO4? It would be nice to enable (some level of) optimisation for the sun studio compiler, by default, I think.
Best regards, Wouter

Thanks for the quick reply. I would prefer to have both removed. Would it be possible, as a compromise, to add the --disable-optimisation flag to the configure script?
Commit to svn trunk r2216 has them removed. I added a note in the README that may encourage people to pass such values to configure on Solaris for sun-cc.
